The Houston Texans Christmas E-Card
I have been working the past couple of weeks on an e-card for the Houston Texans. This project involved adapting the famous poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to a storyline about the Houston Texans Team Mascot, TORO the Bull. I worked out an initial script with my wife, Sarah. After some insertions of more player references, removal of “moos” (Bulls apparently do not “moo”, at least TORO doesn’t) and serious rhythm tweaking, we landed on this. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it. You can view the full version by Clicking Here .

The sleepy town of houston....
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town
The people turned in, the lights were turned down.
We all had returned from our day full of fun,
At Reliant Stadium where the Texans had won.

The family nestled in their beds...
The children were clean and all tucked into bed,
While visions of AJ danced in their heads,
And dressed in my jersey, I fell into sleep,
Dreaming of Schaub yelling “Andre, Go Deep!”

What could that be....
When out in the yard there came such a sound.
I jumped out of bed, and looking around,

That moon sure is bright...and close....
I ran to the window knowing not what I’d find,
I reached for the cord and jerked up the blinds.
The moon was aglow shining on the front lawn.
Making everything bright as if it were dawn.

I'm not sure which is more strange...flying Texans, or a bull guiding a sleigh
When, what did I see about to fly in,
A magnificent sleigh, and the Houston Texans.
A great figure with horns, and his team in a row,
I knew in a moment it must be TORO.
Much faster than lightning they came it did seem,
And I whistled, and shouted, and cheered for the team.

They are booking it...
“Now Slaton! Now Johnson! Now Daniels and Schaub!
On, Winston! On, Walter! On, Williams! Nice Job!
Up over the tree, then down – hang a right!”
I guided them on to my house that cold night.

These elves are asking for it...
And then with a BANG the sleigh came to a stop,
As it knocked the fake elves off my festive rooftop.
‘Cause sleighs don’t glide well down in Texas, you know?
Unless they have mudgrips, for we have no snow.

Oh My!! What a sight!
And then in a moment, I heard on the roof,
The sound of a snort and a step of a hoof.
While closing the blinds, the room filled with ash,
Down the chimney came TORO with a bang and a crash.
He was dressed horn to hoof in red, blue and white,
Enormous in stature, Oh my! What a sight!

I didn't like that vase anyway
With a giant team bag and a smile on his face,
He flung the sack open and broke my wife’s vase.

How did..What did you...it's just a football
Knocking over the tree, decorations and all,
He delivered a shiny new autographed ball.

Heh heh..that's funny
Again reaching in, he pulled from his pack,
A bobble-head version of Coach Kubiak.

No really...thanks, Toro
After filling the stockings with great Texans gear,
He picked up his pack and wiggled his ear
Leaped o’er the tree and with one final smirk
Shot up the chimney like a punt kicked by Turk

Quite the accomplishment
He jumped in his sleigh and it started to rise,
Which was quite the accomplishment due to his size.

Merry Christmas to all
On their way out of town, the team gave a loud cheer,
“Merry Christmas to all and a happy New Year!”
